OBJECTIVE

The world seen through the eyes of people with visual disabilities

People with visual impairments struggle every day with barriers that are invisible to most of us. Inadequate infrastructure, lack of contrast, illegible markings – these are just some of the challenges that make it difficult for them to move around in public spaces.

Our simulator allows you to see the world through their eyes and better understand how to design a space that is accessible to everyone.

ABOUT THE SIMULATOR

Eye diseases that the simulator helps to experience and understand

Each of them affects the perception of space and detail in a different way – from subtle changes in contrast to complete color blindness.

Monochromatism (achromatopsia)

Complete inability to distinguish colors. A congenital disease that involves having a minimal amount or complete lack of cones (they are responsible for color vision, as well as sharp vision) on the retina of the eye.

Daltonism

Hereditary disorder of color discrimination of the red-green axis. is a type of vision defect and is not the same as total color blindness (Monochromatism). Color vision disorders in the simulator are presented by images lacking some of the colors in the presented world.

Myopia

A visual defect that involves improper focusing of the rays by the optical system of the eye. The result is a blurry image. In the simulator, the blurry effect is similar to the effect caused by Cataract.

Retinitis pigmentosa

Hereditary disease leading to the atrophy of retinal cells. It means rod-cone dystrophy, caused by the deposition of pigment in the retina and a disturbance of the circulation in the retina, causing deterioration of vision. Symptoms include:
  • deterioration of vision in the dark
  • tunnel vision
  • cystoid macular edema
  • myopia
  • changes in the vitreous humor

Stargardt Syndrome (Macular Degeneration Type 1)

A rare, hereditary eye disease that leads to progressive deterioration of vision. Symptoms of the disease include disturbances and even loss of central vision, which manifests itself as difficulty distinguishing details, decreased visual acuity, distortion of images, and the formation of dark spots in the central field of vision.

Cataract

Progressive clouding of the lens of the eye. The result is deterioration of vision.

Diabetic retinopathy

The effects of eye conditions that contribute to the experience of a given condition

Each vision condition involves a different set of difficulties in perceiving the world, which is a combination of different effects of the conditions. With the simulator, you can feel how reduced contrast, lack of sharpness or color blindness affect everyday tasks – such as reading signs, navigating the street or using public transport.
